yasmin,

what i am about to say might shock you. it might really, really, really upset you. but listen to me, i've thought it over and it's ok.

are you sitting down? are you ready?

after a little visit yesterday afternoon to american apparel and then a little time on their online store today, i think am ap might be one of my favorite stores of the moment (other than meacon's mloset, of course). it's way less watered-down cool than urban outfitters and way less expensive-preppy than j. crew. i mean, the stuff is so versatile and affordable, and right now, they are making some super great not-quite-basic basics. it has a voice and doesn't feel like its ripping anything else off too hard. i love all the colorways they're offering as well.

i mean, i'm really impressed!!!

and if i had money, i'd go do some real shopping. in fact, i'd probably spend over $30.00, and as you know, when you work at a thrift store, that's really saying something.

here are some things/looks/colors from their online store that i'd like to put in my closet:

i couldn't even start to put up the socks and underwear i like. i like most of it. so much possibility. i'm not apologizing. like like like.

nap time,

jw

dearest,

when i was in texas this weekend, my cousin, jorgie, who has become a bit of an amateur photographer, showed me some of the photos from a series he's been working on. the idea is all things summer as photographed by his holga. i think they're awesome so i am borrowing some from his flickr page.

behold:

plus my favorite building in san antonio, which happens to also be my cousin's favorite building as well...

texas was beautiful. i wish wish wish you could've been there. and i wish i had taken more photos!

Dearest Jess,

It's summer. For reals.

I wish you could of stayed for the whole summer solstice party. We drank wine out of a bottle and made flower crowns while smoke billowed around us in a backyard in Bushwick. Lexi strummed a guitar on a blanket in the grass and we sung along like happy dumb hippies.

Know what else I enjoy in the summer? Spider webs:

So eerie and dreamy.

While googling "spiderwebs" I stumbled upon a series of work by the artist Nina Katchadourian:

She "repaired" spiderwebs with red string, using just the stickiness of the web when it was possible, and dabbing a touch of glue if need. In her blurb about the project, she said that she had found pieces of string on the ground a day or so afterward from the spiders pulling out her repairs and replacing them with new spider webbing.

Here is the "repair kit":
Clever. What a way to spend a summer's day.

Hope you are enjoying the bottomless glasses of Micheladas in Texas. Can't wait for your return.

Hearts and stars and cupcake sprinkles,
Yasmin

Hello friend,

A quick rundown of things that I want in life:

 (fuji instax camera)

spits out wallet sized photos. So you can put them in your wallet. Or in other people's wallets.

a card catalog as an end table. You can find one for sale on craigslist in Harlem.

 (Paul and Joe)

Creepy cats on a flowy silk dress. I should wear this to a wedding in North Carolina. That wouldn't be weird.

 (by F-Troupe)

Don't think I need to explain these. Word.

 (by Hella Jongerius)

to eat my morning hot flax cereal with bananas out of.

Hair like Sloan. Just cause.

Alright, next time I will have a better post. Summer is pulling me away from anything productive... and I kind of love it.

See you round my lil' numnut.

Warner Corner,

Thank you for the picture love! I'm glad you enjoyed them.

I went to the Marina Abramovic exhibit at the MOMA during the closing weekend... it was packed full of tourists immersed in a sea of nudes. I realized that I need to get back into the museum world and was checking out the MET website and realized that I missed out on this!!! Come on.

Victorian paper collage exhibit. These were all made by female aristocrats to pass the time, so much cooler than scrap booking with Pooh stickers. Ten year old Yasmin would be crying right now from disappointment, but I am an adult... so instead I will pout behind closed doors and blog about it so everyone knows.

Mixed Pickles is my favorite by far. He's trying to stab his friends who are mixed pickles! Oh man.

Going to work now, hope to see you again soooooonnnnn.

forever yours,
Yas

Jessica,

Your dream home is so cozy. The picture of the chair with the blue bag and the gray shoes is you as a chair and a blue bag with gray shoes. You're so cute as a chair.

I finally cleared out my camera from my journey around the worldish and back again. I took a few gems, not gonna lie. To sum up my life in Europe for a mere two weeks:

DUBLIN:

Double rainbow. First day. Sums up my trip in one picture.

GALLWAY, IRELAND:

it was hard not to just post every picture I took there, the light was so perfect with the silvery gray clouds.

DUBLIN, IRELAND TO HOLLYHEAD, LONDON:

I took a mild detour and spent a day on land/sea/land transportation. Slept in the airport. Word.

HOLLYHEAD, ENGLAND TO LONDON, ENGLAND:

high speed train photos are always a go.

PARIS, FRANCE:

Garden of the Rodin museum.

Basilique du Sacré-Cœur.

Canal St. Martin.

CANNES, FRANCE:

There were all these remains of dead pigeons in a fountain. Gothic beauty.

Swanky rooftop. Colors like whoa.

Our pretty Lexi.

Old Cannes.

My favorite antique store:

VALLAURIS, FRANCE:

If I ever move to the south of France, I will move here. If there is ever a book entitled "This is What the South of France Looks Like" it would just have pictures of this town.  Kids playing soccer in the street, boulangerie-patisseries on every corner, drunken French men chain smoking at the tobacco shop, old woman putting large underwear on wires to dry. Perfect.

And there you go. Can we go back, this time together?

It's sweaty hot in here and the sky looks like it might explode in storm. Maybe that should be my new album name.

Love you,
Yazzy
