you know, it's funny. i spend a little time on the computer everyday but i don't often have the time to thoughtfully reach out via the internet, email, etc. i wish i could figure out how to be better at that.

that said, i hadn't realized that i hadn't been blogging. i've been squirreling away all these little nut gems to show you on a tumblr page and in my etsy favorites and on my desktop but i haven't actually been posting! well, hibernation times or not, there's no reason for me to hog this stuff. i've been really seeing a lot. blogs and internet window shopping are so good for the day dreaming life. and in my particular day dreams, it seems i live in a cabin covered with moss and filled with extremely costly things. hilariously out-of-my budget wondrous treasures.

here's some stuff that's been on my external hard mind/in my never-going-to happen wish list:

Jeeeeessss,

Winter has turned into a middle-aged woman; listening to Mozart, drinking hot chocolate spiked with Icelandic Schnapps, reading two week old issues of the New Yorker so I'm just far enough behind the times to not know what the kids are talking about.

The only thing that is getting me through is the occasional gander into my Pantone book and sleeping in a room with a color scheme that any 13-year old middle schooler would be jealous of. To keep me going this winter I will find all things bright and rainbow to shake me out of the grey skies.

Ms. Warner Corner,

What a swell shopping time at the Williamsburg Beacon's that was. Until my blood sugar dropped and I realized I was literally walking in a circle staring at a book filled with pictures of objects that looked like Jesus. Stalactite Jesus. Coffee ground Jesus. Jelly bean Jesus. Lamb burger with cucumber dill yogurt on a brioche bun Jesus.

Good thing I always carry a sampling of fruits and nuts in my nap sack. Nap snack.

Back to business.

Ashley is a photo genius (ashleymacknica.com) and she managed to make my sleepy cold self look like I was vacationing on a rooftop in Belize:

(Remember how pretty the top of my building looked until you would glance behind you and see dog poo strewn around? I feel like a den mom living in this building sometimes, telling the campers to put their toys away. And by toys I mean cigarette butt filled beer cans and feces. Kids.)

I really love how my outfit turned out. Simple statement pieces that are all interesting on their own but as an outfit look clean and put together. I'm wearing a lace body suit by Jill Stuart underneath the flowy top. Like a Fly Girl going on a date to Peter Luger's. Boowwwchiccawowow.

Oh how I miss working at the Park Slope Beacon's. Besides working next to my closest friendlies, I have found so many gems to the max. Evidence:

I realized pants are hard to photograph. They just look like crumpled up children's leggings.

it was only a week ago that we got all dolled up in some new beacon's gear and went up to your sunny, sunny roof, where ashley was nice enough to take some very serious photos of us.

so, this is me, featuring a beacon's closet shopping spree for the beacon's closet blog, all dressed up and no where to go :

i have to say, when i picked out these pieces, i was kinda imagining what if i was in a band and i was a singer and i had a show, what on earth would i wear...?

it's kinda corny, i know, but that's my favorite perk of working and shopping at beacon's closet-- indulging the eccentric in me. i have lots of nice and quality pieces from beacon's closet that i wear all the time and they are both very practical and certainly cool, but my most prized pieces are the true one-of-a-kinds and no matter how hard i try, i keep finding my (very large) closet stocked with the bold and the beautiful.

i am bummin' today big time. i don't know what's going on but i feel like i got kidnapped, blindfolded, and then dropped off a bus in the middle of nowhere at 4 AM with no cell phone and no toothbrush. i just don't feel so hot, but, man, that's no good, so i started thinking about the person i love more than anyone else on earth:
joan holloway from mad men.

i was thinking about how she always knows the right thing to say or do or when to say or do nothing. i was thinking about indomitable she is and how much i admire her. so i said to myself, "what do you and joan holloway have in common?" and i thought and i thought and i thought. and you know what i realized?
joan holloway and i have the same favorite color palate . . .
HA!
i mean, come on, warner. well, i know that's not much but it was a good start. there's nothing i love more than noticing and thinking about color and there's nothing i love more than seeing jewel-tone, super-saturated colors. and that's all joan holloway wears.

Dearest Jess,

I've been sick as a dying puppy lately. I couldn't breath out of my nose last night and tossed and turned and had dreams about Will Ferrell serving me non-dairy ice cream in Paris while I was running late for a shuttle bus to take me to a water park.

Oy. Uck. Blech.

Last weeks pre-sickly party at my pad was real nice. It made me feel like I might be a grown-up, cooking a meal and buying bouquets of flowers for a bachelorette dinner party... very Mrs. Dalloway of me. Then I realized: I am almost 31 and am actually a grown-up. So maybe I should start buying grown-up things; less chotzkys, more cheese boards.

Lil' Jen An,

It's good to have you back, I know you've been so hard at work and it's all going to pay off, your new fantasy soon to be reality dream pics looks so so lovely. I can't wait to spend every second of every hour there... I will drink 10 gallons of sangria and will pass out in the bathtub once that baby is done bathing and wake up and do it all over again in the summer winter spring and fall.

Sooooo, technology has not been my friend nor lover lately. Phone loss, green tea Mac incident of 2011. Actually, technology as my lover sounds awkward and not very fun. I never want technology as my lover. BUT it's all resolved and I have a phone that I spent roughly 350 frozen mojitos tips on and a keyboard borrowed from our dear friend Pam Lee.

I was helping Uncle Dad create the layout of his website and long story short web stumbled upon Marius Roosendaal's work and immediately couldn't stop staring and clicking on all of these, a series of (almost) daily images. Real good for layout and typography inspiration. Check it:

The one with the astronaut roughly translates to "beer o'clock". Cute.

this is actually not really to you. it's really for a young man named andy out there in the real world somewhere. however, i'm extremely pleased to be sharing it with you as well.

Jesssss!!!!

We really outdid ourselves last night. Christine was so surprised that she cried with tears of joy. And fear.

Speaking of fear, I have always loved excruciatingly terrifying movies but can never find the time to watch them because night watching a pee-your-pants scary movie is too much for even a strong woman like me and day movie watching is kind of weird to do as an activity by your lonesome at home unless you are sick with a fever and horror films are not ideal sickly at homely fair. Runonsentencessssss.

The other day I decided to finally get weird and day watch Suspiria, which is so hauntingly beautiful and indescribably inconstant with it's story line but it's strange enough for you to stop caring. I also discovered the magic of screen grabs while movie viewing:

Art Deco beauties. The color and lighting is perfect. If I ever get back into styling I would love to do a shoot based on these scenes.

I'm still trying to figure out how to not overdue the summer fun and still be productive and not drown myself in sunshine and margaritas. But it's worth it.

I just keep remembering how enjoyable and beach filled last summer was and I hope to find the most sand in my ears that I ever have. I was just going to post my dream summer digs, but I remembered that in 2010 the adorable Emma Stone had a photo shoot in my apartment by photographer Danielle Levitts for Wonderland Magazine and I never shared the photos... they showcase our perfect creamsicle and gold stripes that we slaved over for days.

What a beauty.

It's supposed to be steamy hot next weekend, lets wear our matching bikinis and go body surfing. Hangtenloosecowabunga.

Mon petit chou,

You can see a slew of pigeons swirling around outside of my living room window, it's strangely soothing to see them collectively change from a steal grey to a raven black as they flock together.

I sound like a senile 87 year old widow who collects tea kettles and has a cat named Muffins. It takes a whole lot for me to get through these limbo weather months.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out a way to make my tiny hobbit hole of a room less hobbity and more queen elfin and I think a collection of mirrors along my loft stairs will open up the room a bit, I really like the groupings in these two photos:

i'm back.
bloggin' to cure those dead o' winter blues.

so, i'm on the couch, just finished cleaning the apt, listening to led zeppelin for a change of pace, and trying to imagine our future spring and summer time hangin' outs.

yasmin, it will happen! it can't snow forever no matter what "the day after tomorrow" says.

last summer was pretty darn good but i'm day dreaming the perfect imaginary world where i'd like to spend my leisure time in the upcoming seasons.

i was mentally reviewing all our usual haunts and i realized that a lot of places in brooklyn right now are heavy on the white walls, the rustic but refined charm, the found objects or the taxidermy, the industrial but pretty/quirky look. sophisticated but rough-hewn. i love it but i'm a little tiny teeny bit over it... or maybe i just have a hankering for change. annnnnddddd, maybe it's this led zeppelin, or maybe it's the 70's bell bottoms i've been rocking all week, or maybe it's that damn long-haired roommate guy of mine, but! i could get really into a hippie shack for 2011. you know, sophisticated but roughhewn...

uhhhhhh...

Yello Jess,

The once fleshy pink beds of my nails are now beet red from excessive contact with grenadine and borderline frostbite. Workcoldworkcoldworkcoldbrainnumb.... remember when we went sledding and I thought that maybe my fingers would break off into frozen ice crystals?

My roommates/NY family just moved around our kitchen and it's starting to look like a real kitchen and not a dumping ground in a freegan squatter hut. The only thing that really needs help is the lighting, so I've been dreaming up a way to make everyone look like they have slept for a solid 8 hours after having an avocado honey facial in Bali.

How have you been since our oyster feast on Friday? My fever came back mixed with a hangover the next day and I felt weird and woozy and confusezzy and drowned myself in raw honey and tea and Amy and Brian's coconut water and Phillip Roth.

I miss seeing you on the blogosphere even though I see you in the real tangible world quite often.

Happy Merry almost Christmas, Jessica Warner!

Soooo, I have barely had time for my brain to comprehend how almost Christmas it is. My presents are not wrapped (and some not even purchased) and I am grumpy and tired from spending 6 hours in the airport yesterday (when I finally got on the plane I happened to be sitting next to the loudest couple on the face of the earth and witnessed two people vomit because of the excessive turbulence).

Annnnndddd, I'm back.

I've been lazy as a sleepy baby... movin', chillaxin', holiday partyin'. That's what babies do. Trying to get back in the creative mindset, inspired by Pattie Smith's book and the artsy angels who are flying in and out of my life right now. So here we go, back to bloggin'.

Moving on Thursday to what Lexi and I coined the munchkin apartment complex. It looks like we each have a 2 story miniature apartment in our room. With a window that looks into the living room in all of them. And a staircase. So strange. And kind of cool. I'm convinced I'm going to plunge to my death off of my bed post night of a bottle of wine, so I'm going to get a baby safety rail installed.

Still trying to decide how to decorate the living room... need to keep it unisex and not to lady like. Considering my aesthetic usually leans towards senile 87 year old who longs for her child hood.

ok. obviously i understand about moving freak outs-- i've been working on this post for a month now but let's go. i'm saying it aloud now, publicly. no freak outs, only roof tops.

i'm moving in with the boss man on october 15th.

we have a dream home in mind-- plants galore, white and wood, textiles and art, and friends over all the time. he's a great gardener and a great drawer and a great cook and a great entertainer. i'm very good at sitting on a couch.

anyways, we have lots of things we need.

As you know, I've been stressing to the max times ten plus twenty-eight about finding a new place. Ugg. Blech. I don't know if I can do it anymore. I've seen some pretty comfy looking park benches in Chinatown... maybe I'll join a collective of old Asian women who strap a 15 pound bag of cans on a broom stick and dig through the LES trash. At least it would give me purpose in life. And they look pretty buff. Done.

Until then, the only thing that is getting me through my search is my mastermind vision of the apartment I will one day live in.
